Margarita Belova from the village of Fedoskino has a talent to create alluring boxes that have a special magnetism. The level of her artistic skill improves with each her new creation. She is one of the leading contemporary Fedoskino artists whose works are acquired by lacquer miniature enthusiasts from different countries.
The work is called "Gossips", and features two village beauties telling each other the latest news or discussing the girl that has just passed by them.
The scene is painted in bright oils. A large piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the background to fill it with light and a subtle yellow, pink and green shimmer. Brilliant gold and silver paints are used to detail the characters' costumes.
The box's exterior is covered with black lacquer, and decorated with luxuriant silver scan patterns (made of tiny shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets, and then glued to the box manually). The box's interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. It has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, the title, and the village of Fedoskino at the bottom of the depicted scene.
