This elegant oval box is a creation of Margarita Belova who has a reputation of one of the most popular contemporary Fedoskino artists. Most of all she likes to paint portraits, scenes from peasant life and romantic scenes.
The box shows a loving couple. Looks like a young man just kissed a pretty young lady. The lady is sit on the pillows with closed eyes and on the back side of the composition we can see the domes of the Kremlin buildings. The scene is painted in various shades of light blue and grey oils. The costumes of the characters are detailed with gold and aluminum paint.
The scene is framed with silver scan patterns (composed of tiny shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box). Silver scan patterns can be also found decorating the box's sides. The box's exterior is covered with dark blue paint mixed with silver powder; the interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene; the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, the name of the work--"Sleeping Beauty" and the village of Fedoskino.
