This portrait of Royal family-Nicholas and Alexandra Romanovs was painted by a talented artist Elena Sdobnova from the village of Fedoskino. The old photo of the Romanovs inspired the artist to create this work.
Nicholas II was the last Tsar of Russia, Grand Duke of Finland, and claimed the title of King of Poland. His official title was Nicholas II, Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias and he is currently regarded as Saint Nicholas the Passion Bearer by the Russian Orthodox Church.
Alexandra Feodorovna Romanova was Empress of Russia as spouse of Nicholas II. Born a granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, she was given the name Alexandra Feodorovna upon being received into the Russian Orthodox Church, which canonised her as Saint Alexandra the Passion Bearer in 2000.
The portrait is painted in the realistic style against the light gray background.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work.
The box's sides are decorated with silver scan patterns. Scans are individual silver punch-outs that are applied to the box surface. On the interior's side of the base, we can find the Royal code of Arms painted in gold.
A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests flat. The work is signed at the bottom of the portrait with the artist's name and Fedoskino.
