Talented family duet of Olga and Vadim Parilovs from the village of Palekh has painted this scene with a winter troika (three horse sleigh) speeding through the Russian countryside. A couple hides from the frost in the sleigh while a driver encourages the horses. On the backside of the composition we can see a small village covered with a snow.
Gold paint is used to detail the sledge, the characters' costumes and the horses' harnesses, manes and tails. This is work is very detailed!
The scene is framed with a nice gold and silver scrollwork. The box's sides are decorated with rich gold and silver paint ornament.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged to the top of the composition, and the box rests flat.
The work is signed with the artist's family name and the village of Palekh.
