Talented artist Alexander Kornilov from the village of Palekh has painted this scene with a winter troika (three horse sleigh) speeding through the Russian countryside. A couple hides from the snowstorm in the sleigh while a driver encourages the horses.
Gold paint is used to detail the sledge, the characters' costumes and the horses' harnesses, manes and tails.
The scene is framed with a nice golden ornament. The box's sides are decorated with more elaborate gold scrollwork.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work.
The lid is hinged to the top of the composition, and the box rests flat.
The work is signed with the artist's name, year of 2016 and the village of Palekh.
