Blokhin Nikolay Alexandrovich was born in Palekh in 1909.
Lacquer miniature artist, his works are displayed in the Palekh Art
This is a rare old Palekh paper-mache box. It is signed and dated by Blokhin,, Palekh, 1935 in tiny gold Cyrillic letters. The text before Blokhin's sign said that originally composition was created by Khotukhin.
The painting depicts an old Russian fairytale and shows a fisherman, goldfish and fisherman's wife sat on a seat in front of their tiny old house. There is a gold pattern around the sides.
The lacquer has all over crazing with age, which gives it a leathery look, but there are no chips. There is some paint loss on the base and also under the lid. It says "foreign made" in gold on the bottom. The hinge is on the top of the composition and is a good fit.
